A landmark healthcare milestone is approaching for DHA City Karachi. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Karachi will open on 29 December 2026, Insha’Allah. The opening marks a major step towards making advanced cancer care more accessible to patients in Karachi, Sindh and Southern Balochistan.
Pakistan’s Third and Largest Shaukat Khanum Hospital
Following the hospitals in Lahore and Peshawar, the Karachi facility will be the third and largest in the Shaukat Khanum network. Spread over 1 million square feet, the hospital will have more than 400 beds and will be twice the size of the Lahore facility at full capacity.
Progress Towards Opening
In a recent media briefing, Shaukat Khanum Chief Medical Officer Dr Aasim Yusuf shared an update on the project. Equipment including linear accelerators, a cyclotron, air-conditioning and ventilation systems, and power generators has arrived on site and is being installed. Staff recruitment is also under way, while finishing work continues.
Why This Hospital Matters
According to Dr Yusuf, more than 13,000 new cancer patients are reported each year across Karachi’s hospitals, where care is often fragmented or unaffordable. The new hospital will bring multi-modality cancer care closer to patients across the region, reducing the need to travel long distances for treatment.
A Proud Milestone for DHA City Karachi
Located on 20 acres in DHA City Karachi, the hospital is one of the community’s most significant healthcare developments. Its opening will strengthen the area’s healthcare infrastructure and bring a vital service to the wider region.
