USA GIVING AN INTERNATIONAL AWARD TO DHA CITY KARACHI (DCK) (1ST SUSTAINABLE CITY OF PAKISTAN)

24June14Karachi, 24 June 2014: After a year long evaluation, the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure, Washington DC, USA has given an “International Award” to DHA City Karachi (DCK) (1st Sustainable City of Pakistan) on 19 June 2014 during an impressive ceremony at Hotel Marriot at Metro Centre in Washington DC, USA. The award to DHA City Karachi (DCK) was received by the Project Director, Brig. (R) Muhammad Rafique. The award has also been conferred upon the DCK Lead Consultants Osmani& Company (Pvt.) Ltd, and their International Associates Prof. Spiro Pollalis, Doxiadis and RMJM.

The Institute is an internationally recognized organization that has developed and maintains a sustainability rating system for civil infrastructure in the world, and was founded by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), the American Public Works Association (APWA) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

On the occasion, Mr. William Berterra, the Chief Executive of Institute greatly appreciated the leadership role taken by Pakistan in Sustainable planning of Cities. He reiterated that adopting a Sustainable Infrastructure on Envision Rating System at city scale has been done for the first time and greatly appreciated the Pakistani Engineers & Planners for achieving this gigantic task within 12 months. He said DCK has now become a sustainability benchmark, which will be followed in new cities development around the world.

Engineer ArifOsmani, Team Leader of Consultants gave a detailed presentation on the sustainable planning & infrastructure of DCK and the fast track execution of the works on the ground. Prof. Pollalis gave a presentation on the urgent need for sustainable cities in world. Engineer InamOsmani elaborated that DHA Karachi has taken the leading role in sustainable infrastructure development in Pakistan through the DCK project.

Brig (R) Muhammad Rafique (PD DCK), Engineer Inam Ahmed Osmani (Chairman OCL), Professor Spiro Pollalis (Harvard University), and Engineer ArifOsmani (Team Leader of Consultants) also received the individual international awards at the occasion for their leadership role in the project.
