Karachi, 25 November 2017: The delegates of International Conference on Sustainable Development in Civil Engineering held at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology from 23-25 Nov, 2017 visited DHA City Karachi (DCK) project on Super Highway (M-9) at the last leg of the conference. DCK which is an internationally recognized Sustainable Project was selected as a venue to showcase planning, structures and ingredients of sustainability in a Pakistan upcoming city of international stature.

Director Development Col (R) Imtiaz Ul Haq Khattak welcomed the delegates comprising eminent scholars and engineers from leading universities of the world including Turkey, Malaysia, UK, Brazil, Thailand and Egypt to DHA City. He said that DCK is a prestigious project of a modern sustainable city meeting the global standards of quality living. He added that DCK has sustainable infrastructure to ensure availability of all basic utilities including holistic integrated planning for infrastructure systems comprising transportation, energy, water, solid waste, landscape and ICT. He said that DHA City is a network of mini cities within a city having dynamic and organic shapes adjusted to terrain.

The Consultant Resident Engineer Brig (R) Sohail said that DCK has been envisioned as the first sustainable, green and smart city of Pakistan that will serve as a model for future independent cities in the country and around the world. He said that hallmark of DCK include quality infrastructure, safety parameters, integrated facilities for work, schooling, shopping, recreation and community activities in close proximity. He remarked that DCK has been planned as the most efficient and sustainable suburb of Pakistan with efficient pedestrian, cycling and roadway systems including renewable energy systems.

The delegates later toured the project sites along the length and breath of DCK. They appreciated the vision, sustainability and planning of DHA City and termed it impressive and progressive in its essence.
