INITIATION OF EXTENSIVE PLANTATION CAMPAIGN IN DHA

Plantation-Campaign-dckKarachi, 26 July 2016 : An extensive tree plantation campaign ‘Go Green DHA’ jointly initiated by Defence Housing Authority Karachi and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to add to the greenery of the upcoming DHA City Karachi (DCK) project in a massive manner began today. Project Director DCK Brig Muhammad Rafique planted a sapling of fruit tree in a ceremony held at DCK project site which marked the beginning of the environmental friendly campaign.

A record number of 100,000 plants of various trees will be planted all along the nook and corner of DCK during the campaign. This is a momentous initiative of DHA towards making 12000 acres of DCK terrain truly green in all aspects in accordance with its declared status of a sustainable green city of Pakistan. The saplings of appropriate fruit and shady trees will be planted across the undulating semi hilly terrain of DCK that will significantly add to the vegetation and greenery of the area making DCK an environment/eco friendly residential project of significance. PD DCK said that ‘Go Green DHA’ is not only a campaign but a versatile action plan that will go a long way to mitigate environmental degradation and global warning in DHA City.

The saplings chosen for plantation i.e mostly Keekar and Neem trees are suitable as per the existing weather and soil. The dynamic team of DCK Horticulture will ensure proper growth and protection of planted trees to make the campaign a success in true letter and spirit.

A number of stake holders comprising governmental and nongovernmental departments and NGOs including DHA, DCK, World Wide Fund for Nature, Cantonment Board Clifton, Sindh Forest Department, National Forum for Environment and Health, Mera Karachi Group, Critical Mass of Bikers, Institute of Architects Pakistan Chapter, Pakistan Green Building Council, Vintage and Classic Car Club of Pakistan, the Pack-Group of Heavy Bikers, Osmani & Company, DHA Oasis and Defence Central Library are part of the campaign.
